Betty’s Boutique Hotel is situated in Mossel Bay on the Garden Route in the Western Cape in South Africa.
We the owners are the Clayphan family from Yorkshire in England who moved to Johannesburg South Africa in 2003 with my husband’s job. We quickly fell in love with this beautiful country and subsequently in 2005 we built a holiday home in Mossel Bay on the Garden Route. Our daughter Daisy grew up in SA from the age of 6 and went to school in JBG and Mossel Bay, before finishing her education in Dubai where we all moved to for 5 years, Daisy started baking from 4 years old with her granny Marjorie in England who started her off on baking cupcakes!
Whilst in Dubai Daisy developed even more of a passion for food after dining in many top class restaurants there and meeting Gordon Ramsay on her 14th birthday and so set her sights on becoming a chef. She then went on to study a culinary arts degree at Buxton in Derbyshire in England and dreamed of having her own place to fulfil her dream.
In July 2017 we bought this beautiful old building in Mossel Bay central and renamed it Betty’s in honour of Betty my husbands dear mother. Betty loved fine China teacups and loved to bake, that’s why at Betty’s Boutique Hotel you will always enjoy our food on pretty china plates, cake stands and silver teapots and white tablecloths.
Now Daisy has married Lewis and they have an adorable little boy called Leo.
They run Betty’s with a passion and love meeting all different nationalities and making their stay extra special, nothing is too much trouble.
They cook amazing breakfasts and will book trips, make restaurant reservations, offer afternoon teas, and offer a wonderful personal stay!
Mum and dad Wendy & Dave are still involved in the meet and greet with guests as they love a glass of bubbles or 2 !
Come and experience the magic of Bettys and see for yourself !

There is so much thought and love put into the decor and feel. It gives you the feeling of staying in a family home with years of fond memories. To Wendy and Lewis, thank you for accommodating us last minute and making sure our stay was perfect! Shubhanshu Gupta2025-01-11Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We stayed at Betty’s for a night during our Garden route road trip. the 1st good thing that I liked after booking Bett’s boutique hotel was their passion (which was expressed via messaging that we must reconsider staying just for 1 night - not at their hotel but at Mossel Bay - because of the sheer presence of innumerable activities and experiences). When we reached there, it was already late evening and were received by Marcia who met us on arrival and showed us to our room (quirky room). She gave restaurant recommendations and was overall a very warm, friendly person. My observations are as follows: Location: the property is located in a nice quiet neighborhood, overlooking the ocean. The hotel is quite close (~15 min drive) from a town called hartenbos. The place has a great vibe with amazing restaurants, pubs, sports bar, camping and shopping. Room: room has everything you need but it’s not very spacious (atleast the category in which we stayed). If you’re bringing a good number of luggage pieces - be prepared to have a little inconvenience or arrange your stuff in the cupboard (if you’re staying for more days). Bathroom is nice and spacious. Our room also had an entrance to the verandah where you can sip coffee/read a book. Food: as vegetarians (who eat eggs) we did not face any issue. Breakfast had ample options, and was pretty good too! Staff: very friendly and warm Overall vibe. The hotel itself has a very English charm to it. In addition to the story of how this is the 2nd generation of British family owning & managing the place, each piece of crockery, furniture, & the activity rooms, add to the aesthetic vibe of the place. My overall recommendation for you would be to definitely consider staying at Betty’s! Galina Nachtigall2025-01-02Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Lewis the owner oversees things and is ably assisted by Marcia who met us on arrival and showed us to our room. We stayed 3 nights in the apartment and it was fantastic. The space was well arranged and presented, we loved the style of the place. There is an adjacent lodge beside the apartment which we enjoyed private dining and family games in during the evening. The pool was warm and clean and our kids enjoyed using it. Breakfast was superb, our dinner platter on evening arrival was equally delicious. We will definitely be back and wish Lewis, Marcia and the wonderful staff all best wishes for the future. Marcia the manager was very friendly and welcoming. Provided us with a welcome drink. The hotel has an unique English twist which I liked. I had the English breakfast which was really tasty. We visited an archaeological sight which was about a 20 minute drive from the hotel. There are not many other attractions near Mossel bay however is a good stop over if you are doing the garden route. I have also heard that Mossel bay is famous for Cage shark diving, however there was not citing of sharks nearby. Brakuje również suszarki do włosów. Śniadanie ok, ale za pieczywo trzeba dodatkowo zapłacić. Nie wiem skąd tyle dobrych opinii. Ja nie polecam. The most hidden hotel gem I've encountered. It's quite kitsch, but absolutely full of heart and charm. If you're a couple planning on staying in Mosselbaai, this is the place, hands down. Parken im abeschlossenen Bereich möglich, aber nicht notwendig. Tolles Frühstück. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt.
