Built in 1903 out of limestone Betty’s Boutique Hotel Mossel Bay oozes old fashioned elegance and glamour of a bygone era. We have lovingly furnished Betty’s with our own personal antiques and treasures, many of which we have brought from England. We the owners live on the premises so it really is a home from home. We have amazing views of the Indian Ocean and the Outeniqua Mountains from our huge covered Stoep/ Terrace, which is where you can feast on our delicious full English breakfast, and traditional afternoon Teas.
We have recently added a small children’s play area and tree house at the bottom of our extensive gardens .

There is so much thought and love put into the decor and feel. It gives you the feeling of staying in a family home with years of fond memories. To Wendy and Lewis, thank you for accommodating us last minute and making sure our stay was perfect! Shubhanshu Gupta2025-01-11Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We stayed at Betty’s for a night during our Garden route road trip. the 1st good thing that I liked after booking Bett’s boutique hotel was their passion (which was expressed via messaging that we must reconsider staying just for 1 night - not at their hotel but at Mossel Bay - because of the sheer presence of innumerable activities and experiences). When we reached there, it was already late evening and were received by Marcia who met us on arrival and showed us to our room (quirky room). She gave restaurant recommendations and was overall a very warm, friendly person. My observations are as follows: Location: the property is located in a nice quiet neighborhood, overlooking the ocean. The hotel is quite close (~15 min drive) from a town called hartenbos. The place has a great vibe with amazing restaurants, pubs, sports bar, camping and shopping. Room: room has everything you need but it’s not very spacious (atleast the category in which we stayed). If you’re bringing a good number of luggage pieces - be prepared to have a little inconvenience or arrange your stuff in the cupboard (if you’re staying for more days). Bathroom is nice and spacious. Our room also had an entrance to the verandah where you can sip coffee/read a book. Food: as vegetarians (who eat eggs) we did not face any issue. Breakfast had ample options, and was pretty good too! Staff: very friendly and warm Overall vibe. The hotel itself has a very English charm to it. In addition to the story of how this is the 2nd generation of British family owning & managing the place, each piece of crockery, furniture, & the activity rooms, add to the aesthetic vibe of the place. My overall recommendation for you would be to definitely consider staying at Betty’s! Galina Nachtigall2025-01-02Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I loved the picturesque setting and decor! Michael S2024-12-27Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Lewis the owner oversees things and is ably assisted by Marcia who met us on arrival and showed us to our room. We stayed 3 nights in the apartment and it was fantastic. The space was well arranged and presented, we loved the style of the place. There is an adjacent lodge beside the apartment which we enjoyed private dining and family games in during the evening. The pool was warm and clean and our kids enjoyed using it. Breakfast was superb, our dinner platter on evening arrival was equally delicious. We will definitely be back and wish Lewis, Marcia and the wonderful staff all best wishes for the future. Marcia the manager was very friendly and welcoming. Provided us with a welcome drink. The hotel has an unique English twist which I liked. I had the English breakfast which was really tasty. We visited an archaeological sight which was about a 20 minute drive from the hotel. There are not many other attractions near Mossel bay however is a good stop over if you are doing the garden route. I have also heard that Mossel bay is famous for Cage shark diving, however there was not citing of sharks nearby. Brakuje również suszarki do włosów. Śniadanie ok, ale za pieczywo trzeba dodatkowo zapłacić. Nie wiem skąd tyle dobrych opinii. Ja nie polecam. The most hidden hotel gem I've encountered. It's quite kitsch, but absolutely full of heart and charm. If you're a couple planning on staying in Mosselbaai, this is the place, hands down. Parken im abeschlossenen Bereich möglich, aber nicht notwendig. Tolles Frühstück. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt.
The large stoep is one of our most used spaces as you will eat breakfast there, later relax with a glass of wine, curl up on Bettys sofa and read a book or just be…the views out to sea and the mountains beyond are truly amazing.
Another place to relax is by our large swimming pool, which is situated away from the bedrooms offering more privacy. Sunbathe on our loungers, sip a glass of South African wine or bubbles and take a dip when the fancy takes you.
It also features our South African Braai area where you can join us for a evening of South African grilled meats, salads and breads, corn on the cob and more, all washed down with local wines.
At Betty’s Boutique Hotel you will never feel cramped by other guests, there is always a different place to sit.
Inside Betty’s Boutique Hotel we have a beautiful bar lounge furnished sympathetically with the era with comfortable armchairs and lit with soft light from lamps.
It also has our precious pool table, brought specially from England. Betty’s husband Don used to play on it with his son Dave, at the age of 90 he beat his son again finally and was ecstatic… sadly 7 days later he passed away. However, his memory lives on as his Photograph now has pride of place overseeing the table, watching for anyone breaking the rules!
